jynweythek
30 September | 2009
I’ve been thinking about the harpsichord. In Schnittke. In Ligeti. Couperin, of course. And in my imagined form of Aphex Twin.
In the spirit of my recent confession about loving Puccini, I also admit to loving Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. It’s a fun take on the period drama, as a genre — though it’s poppy, no question. One of my favorite scenes is when Marie Antoinette is passing from room to room, to the sounds of a prepared piano, composed by Aphex Twin (“jynweythek”). Although not a harpsichord, it tastes a lot like it.
I won’t post the track here, but it can be heard in this experimental video by Ivan Shevchenko.
