hey, tosca.

It’s a known fact that I don’t love New York. In fact, I’m often rather skeptical of the whole premise.
But here is why I heart New York. The Met Opera on a big screen, outside. I was on my way to the NY public library (performing arts branch) and walked through the pedestrian interface for the Met Opera, City Opera, the NY Phil, and others. aka, Lincoln Center Plazaaa. And there she was. On a big screen, on a balmy (sweater-friendly) September evening — a Monday, no less. Singing her heart out, about a portrait, and love, and Feelings. Tosca (otherwise known as Karita). How great. To be walking along, carrying my daily stuff (violin, purse, bag of Trader Joe’s), and run into THAT?! I just love Puccini. Put it on a t-shirt. No shame.
Anyway. My point. Going to the library to check out Kurtag’s “Kafka Fragments” is fun. Seeing/hearing delicious opera for free, unexpectedly in the middle of my walking path, is funner [sic].
