City Ballet's not the only one

Today’s NYTimes article about New York City Ballet’s cut underscores some concerns I have about the dance world. I work with dancers a lot, and I love what they do, especially those with a strong work ethic. But there’s something deeply troubling about the ephemerality (?) of their professional life. Etc. Indicative quote, from a Max van der Sterre: “I’ve seen so many dancers come and go,” he said. “Everyone is expendable. Even principal dancers are replaceable. It’s all about the system, the end product.”
